　　As college English education is greatly emphasized with the rapid development of global commuiiicaticm，tbe defects that exist in the current educational system are open to more criticism- It is widely acknowledged that a thorough reform of college English education should be under way.

　　People ask for English education reform mainly because of the Inadequacy of college English education under the current system. On the one hand, many coilege English teachers underestimate the role interest plays in English learning and keep preaching in class. On the other h^nd, under the current system, most Chinese students tend to separate vocabulary memorizing, grammar, Hsteniiig, speaking, reading, and writing ftom each other and therefore their English is also “broken” in this way. This has also greatly contributed to the “dumb English” of many Chinese students.

　　In my view, to reform English education, colleges and universities should encourage students to speak English in class and hold more activities to promote students" oral English. 　　The two graphs show the comparison of traffic accident cycles in a city for the past two years ( 2003 and 2002 ) . In each graph, the arrow indicates the annual average point for each trafficaccident. The chart for 2003 tells us that most traffic accidents happened in December, whileearly spring (March ) has a relatively higher percent. Tr affic accidents decrease from April toOctober, and July has the lowest percentage of traffic accidents for 2003.

　　A Letter to the President of the University

　　Dear Mr. President,

　　I am writing this letter to you to express my concern about the sports facilities on campus. I have noticed that our university has very limited resources in terms of opportunities to participate in sports, especially given that the number of students on campus is increasing every year.

　　As we both know, sports are very important for the sound growth of young people. If they have access to quality sports facilities, young people are able to choose a healthier lifestyle, to boost self-esteem and confidence, and to build a positive outlook and sense of achievement.

　　My proposal is to build a new sports area. It should be designed with soccer players, basketball players, and ping-pong players in mind. It should have a different section for each activity and be available to students all year round. I believe such facilities will meet our sporting needs.
